El Toro is a side-scrolling game created by Danny Johnson and Allyn Limson for the PC platform. It was developed using the Game Maker engine and was entered into the Cogswell Polytechnical College Fusion Awards in 2007 where it won the award in the Game Design category.
Gameplay
El Toro puts players into the role of a mariachi guitar wielding man named El Toro who fights the evil Banditos Muertos. It takes place in a small Mexico-like village in the desert. The objective of the game is to destroy the evil skeletons and stop them from taking over the town. To do this El Toro uses the power of music (in this case his guitar) to vanquish the skeletons. Each skeleton in the game emits one of three colors (red, orange or blue) and the player must match the color with their corresponding guitar chord color. The game uses these visual and color cues to show the player that they must play certain chords in order to destroy enemies, move rotating doors and get an extra boost from the boost blocks littered throughout the levels.
